![Our sweet cat Scooter passed away unexpectedly this week 💔.
I never considered myself a cat person until I moved back home last November. I grew up with cats but my favorite pet was definitely our dog Roxie (apologies to my previous cats). I actually discovered that I was allergic to cats when I was living in New York for the past 10 years. I used to keep my parent’s cats 6 feet away from me when I would visit them in LA.
But Scooter stole my heart. Since moving in with my parents as I transition back to Los Angeles, I have felt so connected to this cat. The way he laid on my chest and purred so loudly. Or how any time I would open the pantry door, he came running, anticipating a cat treat. I would open up my blinds every morning so that he could sit on my record player and look out the window. Which he did. Every day.
It feels like there is a stigma against grieving for pets in the same way we do for humans. But I’m here to say that the pain is real for us and I am holding space for anyone else that has lost a pet recently. Feel the feels [I’ve cried every day since he died]. Share memories with loved ones.
